Realistically, IMO, you both should find the safest area where you are currently at.  So you should find a safe area near your work and he his.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Naturally, you will want to contact each other as soon as possible.  Phone lines and such may be tied up, your phone might have stopped working, etc.  So a good tip I read is make sure you both have decided an out of bay area contact person who is the first person you should notify after a quake.  That person should have both your contact info, your parents contact info, etc.  They should be the communication hub to keep everyone updated.  If the bay area has a big quake and phone lines get jammed up, it will be invaluable to be able to squeeze a call to that one person and have them relay your status to everyone else.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Some other tips: http://pubs.usgs.gov/gip/2005/15/&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Also, regarding that area being a landfill.  That is a damn good question and I&amp;#39;m not sure.
