Surfing pain in the ass

I went surfing for the first time in a while last Friday. I haven't been surfing much recently because I've been really focused on tri training (which has been going pretty shitty..but that's another story).

Woke up at 5:30 am, hit the beach by 6:10 am and was in the water by 6:30. The waves looked pretty good from the lot and Archie and I headed to the north end.

Whoa. Once we got out there, the waves seemed a lot bigger then they seemed from the beach.

5 minutes in and I go for my first wave. It's about 2 ft overhead and i go flying down the face. Feels great to be back in the water. Once I get to the trough of the wave it breaks right on top me and I wipe out. Badly.

I get tumbled around and my surfboard whips around like a slingshot on my leash and whacks me right in the ass. The fin digs right in and leaves a hell of a bruise. BTW, I just bought a new camera, so expect a lot more pics soon. So one of my first pictures I take...my bruised ass:

OK. That's not really my ass. All of the above actually happened, but the surfboard nailed me in the back of my shoulder. Here's where I actually got hit:
